After School Opera Club

We are particularly proud of our After School Opera Club projects where we have run after school opera sessions over several months as a longer term project for young people to learn about opera, develop their acting and singing skills and have fun!

In 2025 we are excited to be partnering with Roehampton Base Youth Club to offer monthly opera sessions for young people in the relaxed after school environment of their local youth club. We have run various sessions here recently with a great response from participants so are excited to be developing this further into monthly sessions in the run up to our summer street opera performances this year.

Previously we have partnered with the brilliant local children’s charity Jigsaw4u and a local school to offer a group of Years 4-6 a two term project culminating in a final performance for parents and carers. In 2019 the club focussed on Die Fledermaus and took place at Cranmer Primary School, Merton and St John Bosco College, Wandsworth funded by the Wimbledon Foundation, while our 2022 club took place at Links Primary, Merton focussing on Carmen and funded by the Wimbledon Foundation and Three Monkies Trust.

These groups learnt about opera including our re-imagined version for contemporary London life, using this piece as a starting point to create, write and devise their own new production working towards a final performance for friends, family and the professional team in the summer. The group met weekly in term time to develop their singing and acting skills, focus, confidence and listening skills, working as a team and working individually, creative thinking and most importantly, to have lots of fun!!

If you’re a young person based in Roehampton interested in getting involved this year please do get in touch!
